{Blog Tour} Interview with Diana Baron, author of erotic romance, 'Training Temptation'

I am so thrilled to have Diana Baron, author of the erotic romance novel, Training Temptation, here at The Writer's Life today!  Diana will be talking about her book, her writing life and lots more.  Welcome Diana!

About the Author:

Diana began writing the moment she learned how to hold a pencil. By elementary school, she was writing and directing plays for kids in her afterschool program. Over the years, short stories piled up on her nightstand. At night, she could always be found holding a flashlight and a book under her blanket.
She studied writing and literature through high school and into the first two years of college. But then, her fascination with other cultures and religious practices took over. She has degrees in Cultural Anthropology and Comparative Religious Studies from San Jose State University and is published in non-fiction.
After college, her life took an unexpected turn. She's currently a project manager and technical spec writer for a Silicon Valley computer company by day and a daring novelist by night. When she's not tearing up the felt playing at the World Series of Poker, she's traveling to her favorite Caribbean islands.

Her latest book is the erotic romance, Training Temptation.

Interview:

Q: Welcome to The Writer's Life, Diana!  Now that your book, Training Temptation, has been published, we’d love to find out more about the process.  Can we begin by having you take us at the beginning?  Where did you come up with the idea to write it?

Ten years ago, I read a book in which a character lived on a ranch for ponygirls. I had never heard of ponygirls before so I found the whole concept fascinating. I wondered, what would make someone want to dress up like a pony? The question percolated in my mind for years. When I finally sat down to write the book, I delved into researching the life of a ponygirl. I wove the answer to my question into the book’s heroine, Caroline.

Q: Interesting!  I would love to find out more about ponygirls myself. How hard was it to write a book like this and do you have any tips that you could pass on which would make the journey easier for other writers?

I wrote about twenty first chapters to various books then decided I really needed to finish one. So I went through them and chose the book that spoke to me the most then committed to writing at least 3 pages a day. Write a few pages a day and write fast. You can fix anything that needs to be fixed during revisions.

Q: LOL, twenty first chapters?  Wowsers, you have a library there just waiting to be published. Who is the publisher for this one and how did you find them or did you self-publish?

I self-published so that I could control the writing pace, editing, cover and title. It’s a lot of work up front, but the higher royalties will last a lifetime.

Q: Personally I love self-publishing.  So far anyway.  The control is what I love about it. Is there anything that surprised you about getting your book published?

Once I had written the first draft, editing wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be. In the first draft, I had a major plot problem that needed to be fixed, but once I figured it out, editing the rest of the book was easy. I found a great freelance editor to smooth out a final version.

Q: Nothing can compare to seeing your book cover for the first time. Can you describe the feeling when you saw yours for the first time?

Shock. I couldn’t believe the book I’d spend months writing was finally published. I walked around for weeks with a grin plastered across my face.

Q: What other books are you working on and when will they be published?

My next fiction novel, French Kiss, will be available this Fall, 2013. In French Kiss, Lori, a newly unemployed woman, travels to France to work for an elderly couple and their sexy but reclusive grandson.

Q: Oh la la!  I adore France.  Good luck with your next novel! Fun question: How does your book contribute to making this world a better place?

Training Temptation is intended to be a fun, sexy read. It contributes to making the world a better place by giving someone the pleasure of escaping into a world they wouldn’t typically encounter.

Q: Finally, what message are you trying to get across with your book?

Don’t be afraid to try something new. You can have a very elaborate fantasy world without ever acting on it.

Q: Thank you again for this interview, Diana!  Do you have any final words?

If you have a dream, do whatever it takes to go after it. Break your dream into manageable steps and you will eventually get there. Someone once asked me, “How do you eat an elephant?” I gave them a puzzled look and they responded with, “One bite at a time.”
