Interview with Greta Bondieumaitre, author of 'Til I Find You'

Greta Bondieumaitre is from St. Lucia, a small but lively island in the Caribbean. She started writing love stories between classes in high school to amuse her friends at lunch time. Ten years later, she published her first novel, "Her Heart's Desire". She later published, "Play Me A Love Song" and recently, "'Til I Find You". She describes writing during her post-high school years as, "self therapy".

Q: Welcome to The Writer's Life!  Now that your book has been published, we’d love to find out more about the process.  Can we begin by having you take us at the beginning?  Where did you come up with the idea to write your book?

The idea for ’Til I Find You came to me as I sat on a bus, on my way home from a bad date when I noticed a young woman with a very attractive pointy nose. She sat across from me, listening to music on her MP3 and completely oblivious to her fellow passengers and the town passing by. Next to me was a young man with his eyes fixed on her. I was a bit bored and decided to speculate about them. That’s when the “what ifs” began. “What if he was brave enough to go over to her and ask her number?”, “What if she had just had a horrible date (like the one I just had)?”, “What if her life was a series of bad dates?” And the rest is in the book.

Q: How hard was it to write a book like this and do you have any tips that you could pass on which would make the journey easier for other writers?

This book was not particularly hard as I knew where I wanted to go with it from the very beginning. It was just a matter of finding the right words and putting them together in a satisfactory manner.

As for passing on tips for other writers, everyone is different and therefore you need to know what works for you and use it. However, reading is always a good foundation but do not read what you do not want to write.

Q: Who is your publisher and how did you find them or did you self-publish?

I self-published with Xlibris.

Q: Is there anything that surprised you about getting your first book published?

Just getting it published was the first surprise. Then, it was the amount of work necessary to complete the process. I used to think that once the manuscript was complete the writer’s work was done…well, surprise, surprise, it’s only the beginning.

Q: Can you describe the feeling when you saw your published book for the first time?

Wow, I was speechless. This was my very own small mark on the world. Goosebumps.

Q: What other books (if any) are you working on and when will they be published?

I’m working on a romance novel at the moment and I’m hoping to publish it by 2015.

Q: Fun question: How does your book contribute to making this world a better place?

It will definitely make its readers laugh. Merrier people, a better world!

Q: Finally, what message (if any) are you trying to get across with your book?

The quest for love is universal. It is sometimes dark and solitary but there are always a few surprises along the way.

  

Q: Thank you again for this interview!  Do you have any final words?

’Til I Find You, is a very interesting read for anyone who wants a momentary disconnection or just a small break from daily life. In Tisha’s world the main worries are finding a good date and Mr. Right. I started writing this book at a time when my life was a bit dull. Writing “‘Til I Find You” brought that spark I needed to lift my spirits. I hope it’ll do the same for its readers.
